    Spelling sensations

    Southampton Intermediate School seventh grader Damian Morales took the top spot in his school’s annual spelling bee on Jan. 19. Following Morales was sixth grader Matthew Lesta. The pair were two of 37 students that competed in the final spelling bee round, following classroom rounds held earlier in the week.

    Eighth grade family and consumer science students at Southampton Intermediate School recently engaged in an entertaining game of Nutrition Bingo. The game was part of a unit of study on nutrition and wellness.

    Southampton Elementary School fourth-grade students are gearing up for their school’s first P.S. I Love You Day celebration, scheduled for Feb. 10. The students worked with their art teacher to create paintings that carry a message of friendship and will serve as decorations for the event.

    Worldwide child advocate and speaker Frank Kros has been working with parents and students at Southampton Intermediate School through a series of grant-funded workshops. Kros has been engaging students in discussions about the decision-making processes and student brain development.
