    Native American Heritage Month

    November is Native American Heritage Month. Throughout the month, SHS will recognize the invaluable contributions of Native peoples. The Shinnecock and other Native peoples have shaped our community and our country. This month we honor the Shinnecock Nation and hundreds of Tribal Nations who continue exercising their inherent sovereignty.

    To mark October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, members of the Southampton Intermediate School National Junior Honor Society united their peers in several activities to raise funding and awareness about breast cancer research.

    Learning CPR and first aid

    Southampton Intermediate School home and career students were recently trained in infant and adult CPR and first aid. The students received the training in their class throughout the week of Oct. 23. Instructing the classes was Joe Hurley of Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance Company.

    Kicks for Cancer

    The Southampton High School girls soccer team recently hosted two successful fundraisers. In October, the athletes raised $1,000 as part of the annual breast cancer awareness campaign, Kicks for Cancer. In September, they had raised $950 for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Those funds were donated to the Daniela Conte Foundation of Long Island.

    Southampton students celebrate Unity Day

    Southampton Intermediate School students recently marked Unity Day by wearing orange and participating in a variety of kindness activities. Unity Day aims to encourage students to promote acceptance, inclusion and kindness and send the message that no one should ever experience bullying.

  •  Intermediate school students brush up on fire safety

    Intermediate school students brush up on fire safety

    Southampton Intermediate School eighth grade home and career students recently participated in a fire safety workshop. During the in-class presentation, Southampton Fire Chief Manny Escobar spoke to the students about proper use of a fire extinguisher, fire and CO2 alarms, and the department’s Juniors Program. Students also had the opportunity to practice using a fire extinguisher through a simulator.
