    Southampton art students earn accolades

    Five Southampton High School student-artists have been recognized by the Parrish Art Museum for the museum’s annual Student Exhibition, which runs through April 26.  The 2023 exhibition features more than 1,000 young artists from East End schools. The students will be honored at a showcase on April 1. The Southampton Union Free School District extends its congratulations to the following talented artists:

    Southampton senior wins top spot in regional Skills competition

    Southampton High School senior Chloe Phillips, who is a second-year nursing student at the Eastern Long Island Academy of Applied Technology, earned first place in the certified medical assisting category at the regional SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Championships. She will next compete at the state competition in April.

    Senior named National Merit finalist 

    Southampton High School senior Dhivya Sampath has been recognized as a finalist in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program as a result of her outstanding scores on the qualifying exam. Sampath is now among 15,000 students across the nation competing for $28 million in

    Southampton High School senior Dave Altamirano and junior Kimberly Reyes Flores have earned Employee of the Month recognition as part of their career and technical education studies at Eastern Suffolk BOCES. Both Altamirano and Flores received the honor by displaying

    Five select members of the Southampton High School Choir recently sang backup vocals with the international singing group. The Celtic Tenors from Ireland during a St. Patrick’s Day concert at the Basilica Catholic Church in Southampton Village

    To inspire reading among students and families, Southampton Elementary School recently held a Family Literacy Night. The evening featured a viewing of student reading projects, book readings by teachers, crafts and book giveaways.

    The sounds of St. Patrick’s Day

    In celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, Southampton Intermediate School fifth graders enjoyed a special visit from a representative of the Suffolk County Police Emerald Society. The students learned about the history of the bagpipes and how they are played and participated in a question-and-answer segment about the instrument.

    Southampton High School and Intermediate School students from the Shinnecock Nation recently had the opportunity to visit Cornell University. Cornell’s American Indian and Indigenous Studies Program invited the students to attend its Promising Futures outreach and recruitment program,

  •  Italian community class

    Italian community class

    The Italian Club at Southampton High School will host its next Italian for All class on Wednesday, March 8, from 6:30-8 p.m. at Southampton High School. During the class, club members, under the advisement of Maria Abbadessa, will provide Italian language instruction through model dialogues, karaoke and talks about various aspects of Italian culture.
