Spelling sensations
Southampton Intermediate School seventh grader Damian Morales took the top spot in his school’s annual spelling bee on Jan. 19. Following Morales was sixth grader Matthew Lesta. The pair were two of 37 students that competed in the final spelling bee round, following classroom rounds held earlier in the week.

Southampton Elementary School fourth-grade students are gearing up for their school’s first P.S. I Love You Day celebration, scheduled for Feb. 10. The students worked with their art teacher to create paintings that carry a message of friendship and will serve as decorations for the event.

Varsity club raises money for Special Olympics through badminton tournament
Members of Southampton High School’s Varsity Athletic Club recently raised $500 for the Special Olympics through a badminton tournament. For the event, 30 teams comprised of one student and one faculty member competed against each other.

Southampton eighth grader named Rookie of the Year
Carlie Kreymborg, an eighth grader at Southampton Intermediate School, recently earned the Section XI Varsity Field Hockey Rookie of the Year title. Kreymborg, a first-year varsity player, was the only athlete in Section XI to earn the honor for being an impactful and vital player to her team.

France and Italy in 2025 trip
There will be a meeting for students and parents/guardians of current freshmen and sophomores who are interested in traveling to France and Italy in 2025. The “Fritaly” trip will take place during Spring Break 2025. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, January 25th in the SHS Band room at 6:00

Italian community class
The Italian Club at Southampton High School will host its next Italian for All class on Thursday, Jan. 19, from 6:30-8 p.m. at Southampton High School. During the class, club members, under the advisement of Maria Abbadessa, will provide Italian language instruction through model dialogues, karaoke and talks about various aspects of Italian culture.
