Southampton appoints coordinator of secondary curriculum
The Southampton Union Free School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Virginia McGovern as its new coordinator of secondary curriculum.
“We are pleased to promote one of our own who has shown impressive dedication to the district, our students and staff,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Nicholas Dyno. “We look forward to her future accomplishments in her new role.”
McGovern has served as a teacher on special assignment within the district since September 2017. In that role, she has worked collaboratively to develop and implement curriculum and new pedagogical practices. Prior to that, she worked in the district’s high school as a social studies teacher from 2010-2017 and as a reading specialist from 2006-2010.
McGovern holds a Bachelor of Arts in history/political science and a Master of Education in literacy from Southampton College of LIU, and is working on her doctorate in philosophy from St. John’s University. She earned her advanced certificate in educational leadership from LIU Post.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to continue the good work that has begun, and I look forward to working for the teachers and students of Southampton,” she said.
