Southampton Musicians Earn College Credit

SHS student-musicians recently earned college credit through Suffolk County Community College’s Beacon program.

Fourteen student-musicians from Southampton High School had the unique opportunity to earn college credit as part of Suffolk County Community College’s Beacon program.

Through the program, the students bolstered their college transcripts while taking part in unique performance opportunities. They worked closely with Nancy Caine, high school orchestra director and coordinator of fine and performing arts, during a two-month period and then rehearsed and performed under Dr. Richard Wright, director of orchestras and music department chair at SCCC.

Program participants included Sarah Brady, Citlalli Chino Martinez, Patricia Coo, Jasmin Esposito, Wilson Green, Dreanne Joseph, Robert McKnight, Zachary Mobius, Keven Nguyen, Joshua Rabin, Logan Shumway, Vmarsha Sital, Nika Lea Tomicic and Jack Zaloga.

Southampton High School is the only high school on Long Island that takes advantage of the Beacon program for music performance.
