Southampton’s Purcell named executive director of technology

During their special meeting on July 10, the Southampton School District Board of Education promoted Julieanne D. Purcell to executive director of technology.

“Ms. Purcell is well-deserving of this promotion,” said Superintendent of Schools Nicholas Dyno. “Over the past 20 years, she has proven her dedication to our district family and students.”

Purcell started with the Southampton School District as a sixth grade science teacher in September 2000. Two years later, she was appointed the part-time director of instructional technology, where she was responsible for the implementation of the district’s email system, district and teacher websites, student portfolios and the integration of technology into the district’s curriculum. She also implemented PowerSchool’s online gradebook and parent portal. In 2008, she was promoted to full-time director of instructional technology, a role in which she oversaw the district’s online computer-based testing and launched a one-to-one iPad initiative for students in grades 2-12.

Purcell holds a Bachelor of Science from SUNY Oneonta, a Master of Arts in elementary education from Aldelphi University, and two Masters of Science from LIU Post — one in educational technology: computers in education, and the other in school administration and supervision.

Of her promotion, Purcell said, “I would like to thank the Board of Education and central administration for affording me the opportunity to bring the technology department together. We have a tremendous and very talented staff who work extremely hard to support the faculty, students and staff of this district. I am excited to work with them to create one voice from the department and further enhance the technology in the district.”
