Learning about K-9sLearning about K-9s

Students at Southampton Intermediate School learned about K-9s during a recent visit by three East End officers and their police dogs.

During the event, Southampton Village Police Department Officer James Moore and Riverhead Police Department Officers John Morris and Sean Williams spoke to students about the training that dogs and handlers must complete to become police K-9s and the different specialties they can acquire, including drug and bomb detection. They also discussed the use of K-9s in locating missing persons and cadavers, apprehending individuals suspected of committing a crime, and evidence recovery.

The session culminated with the officers showing students how their K-9s complete obedience drills.
