S.T.A.R. Summer Program Registration Open
Social Thinking And Reasoning (S.T.A.R.) is a program involving children in grades K-8, along with high school students employed as counselors. The program teaches skills, designed to improve academic achievement, self-confidence, discipline, and prevention of drug abuse. Program directors Sherrrilyn Blakey-Smith and Richard Wingfield, are dedicated professionals who have been successfully leading the S.T.A.R. Program for many years. The staff also includes Southampton School District teachers, former high school P.A.L. (Peer Assisted Leadership) participants who are now attending college, and current high school students. S.T.A.R. will serve approximately 250 children. Those who participate in the program will enjoy a variety of activities conducted at the Parrish Art Museum, Rogers Memorial Library, and trips to area bay beaches. Time is designated for reading, math, social studies and science skills, specific for different grade levels, as well as arts and crafts, field trips, guest speakers and extended projects.
