Position Title: Co-Teacher/Consultant for Shinnecock Language, History, and Culture Class
Location: Southampton High School
Salary/Pay Scale: $7,500
Each position will be responsible for collaborating (1 period per day) and executing curriculum (1 period per day).
Support activities outside the regular workday (commitment is no less than 10 and no more than 20 hours weekly).
The Shinnecock Co-teacher/Consultant is expected to:
- · Work collaboratively with the language-certified teacher to develop lesson plans
- · Be well versed in, and able to present Shinnecock traditions, stories, practices
- · Assist with the identification of settings on the Shinnecock Territory that supplement the goals of the classroom
- · Assist with taking the lead to coordinate Shinnecock experts’ schedules to contribute and attend class (ie; artists, writers, historians, government officials, etc. and trips)
- · Provide individual student support
- · Assist with delivering language (words, phrases, reclamation significance, etc. as approved by the Shinnecock Algonquin Language Team and the Council of Trustees)
- · Have flexibility in time that may extend hours for after-school-related activities
- · Report to the building principal
A minimum of a high school diploma is required; college experience or completed degrees are preferred.
This position is expected to begin September 1, 2025.

The ideal candidate will be experienced in the traditions, culture, and language of the Shinnecock Nation and must demonstrate knowledge, experience, education or training of the Shinnecock, language, history, traditions, culture, and priorities.
The candidate must be able to work collaboratively with fellow educators and connect with youth. The candidate will also be willing to continue professional development opportunities that further the goals of the class.
In concert with the World Language teacher, the candidate is also expected to keep logs regarding student abilities, student progress, and course needs; provide regular communication with parents, administrators, co-teacher, and the Shinnecock liaison; be available to Council or delegate for regular classroom updates; and work with the Southampton curriculum writing team to complete the units of study for the course curriculum.
