ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Spanish Fluency is Strongly Preferred
Leave Replacement speech-language therapist/pathologist to offer school-based services at Southampton Intermediate School. This position is responsible for performing and reporting on evaluations, participation on the Committee on Special Education including initial eligibility decisions, development and implementation of IEP plans and intervention for students with Speech and Language needs.
KEY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
· Administers hearing or speech/language assessment and evaluations, and/or examinations to students to collect information on strengths and needs
· Advises educators on speech/language and/or hearing topics.
· Counsels and instructs teachers in techniques to improve speech/language or hearing impairment.
· Evaluates speech/language test results and educational background information to determine the presence of speech/language impairment and determine the course of therapy.
· Participates in/attends conferences or training to update or share knowledge of new hearing or speech/language disorder treatment methods or technology.
· Records and maintains reports of speech/language or hearing evaluation and/or treatments.
· Make recommendations for additional educational services if needed.
· Participates in all professional development programs, and meetings as required by PPS.
· Complies with the school district and operational policies and procedures.
· Perform all others duties assigned by immediate PPS and School supervisor.
· Bilingual English/Spanish both spoken and written, preferred.
· Knowledge of evaluation and treatment methods for bilingual children with communication disorders in the areas of voice, language, fluency, and articulation
· Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations that impact service delivery
· Willingness to adopt and implement school district goals and policies, while contributing personal knowledge and skills to a team environment
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist from the NYS Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology
· Bilingual Education Extension preferred but not required
· A minimum of three years’ experience as SLP preferred but not required.
