Southampton names new assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction

The Southampton School District Board of Education has appointed Dr. Brian Zahn as the the new assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.

“We are excited to announce the promotion of Dr. Zahn,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Fatima Morrell. “Dr. Zahn has been an integral part of our district for more than 15 years. His dedication to students and the community, along with his impressive and inspiring work ethic, make him a perfect fit for this new position.”

Dr. Zahn, of Center Moriches, joined the Southampton School District in 2008 as the assistant principal of Southampton Elementary School. He served in that position until 2012, when he was appointed as the principal of Southampton High School.

Prior to joining the district, Dr. Zahn taught first, second and fourth grades at FJC Southeast Elementary School in Brentwood from 2000-2008.

Dr. Zahn served as vice president and zone leader of the Suffolk County High School Principals Association, president of the Southampton Administrators Association, and member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals and Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.

Outside of school, he is a cubmaster for Cub Scout Pack 23.

Dr. Zahn holds a Bachelor of Science from Iona College, a Master of Liberal Science from Stony Brook University, a school leadership and supervision professional diploma from Queens College, and a doctorate in educational leadership and technology from Dowling College. 

"I am excited to continue serving the Southampton community in my new role as assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction,” Dr. Zahn said. “I look forward to working alongside Dr. Morrell, [Assistant Superintendent for Business] Mr. Mingot, the administrative team, our teachers and our community members on ensuring that our students are achieving at the highest level and that we are providing the very best programs and supports for them."
