Southampton names new coordinator of special education
The Southampton School District Board of Education has appointed Matthew Prahl as the district’s new coordinator of special education.
“We are pleased to introduce Matthew Prahl as our new coordinator of special education,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Fatima Morrell. “He has dedicated his career to special education and has shown exceptional leadership in advocating for inclusive practices that elevate outcomes for all learners.”
Prahl, of Rocky Point, joins the Southampton School District from the Riverhead School District, where he was most recently the assistant to the director of pupil personnel services, as well as the IEP facilitator. His previous roles include CSE chairperson in the Patchogue-Medford School District, assistant administrator of special education in the Smithtown School District and assistant supervisor of special education in the South Huntington School District. He began his career as a special education teacher in the Deer Park School District.
Prahl holds a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education and special education from SUNY Plattsburgh and both a master’s degree in liberal arts and an advanced graduate certificate in school district leadership from Stony Brook University.
“As a new administrator at Southampton, I hope to continue to build strong, trusting relationships with students, families, staff and community partners,” said Prahl. “In a district where every voice has an impact, I wish to support and continue a collaborative culture where people feel heard, valued and supported as we work together to meet the needs of all learners. I am honored to serve a place where we lift one another up and work together to create opportunities for all.”
