Southampton High School Hosts Student-Led Powwow Celebrating Shinnecock Culture

Southampton High School honored Shinnecock history and culture by hosting a powwow assembly led by John Boyd and David Riley’s language and culture students. The students proudly spoke to their peers about Native American heritage and the Shinnecock Algonquian language. The assembly also featured Native American song, dance and beautiful regalia. Afterward, high school and intermediate school students enjoyed a special school lunch featuring fry bread, which extended the learning through a beloved cultural tradition.
