2026 Southampton UFSD Budget Vote & Board of Education Election

The Annual Budget Vote and Election will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, from 10:00 am - 8:00 pm in the Southampton Intermediate School Music Room, 70 Leland Lane, Southampton.

  1. To adopt the annual budget of the Southampton Union Free School District for the fiscal year 2026-2027 to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the District.
     
  2. To elect one (1) member of the Board of Education for a four-year term commencing July 1, 2026, and expiring on June 30, 2030, to succeed Germain L. Smith, whose term expires on June 30, 2026.
     

A Public Hearing of the qualified voters of the Southampton Union Free School District, Town of Southampton, Suffolk County, New York, will be held in the Southampton Intermediate School Library, 70 Leland Lane, Southampton, NY on May 5, 2026, at 6:30 p.m., prevailing time, for the transaction of business as authorized by the Education Law, including the following items: 

  1. To present to the voters a detailed statement of the amount of money which will be required for the 2026-2027 fiscal year.
     
  2. To discuss all the items hereinafter set forth to be voted upon at the Budget Vote and Election to be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
     
  3. To transact such other business as may properly come before the meeting pursuant to Education Law of the State of New York and acts amendatory thereto.

Petitions nominating candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education shall be filed with the District Clerk at her office at 300 Hampton Road, Southampton, New York, 11968, not later than April 20, 2026, 5:00 p.m., prevailing time. Each petition shall be directed to the Clerk of the District by mail  (300 Hampton Road, Southampton, NY 11968), email (clerk@southamptonshools.org) or fax (631-287-2870); must be signed by no less than 25 qualified voters of the district and must state the name and residence of the candidate. Vacancies on the Board of Education are not considered separate, specific offices; candidates run at large. Nominating petitions shall not describe any specific vacancy upon the Board for which the candidate is nominated. Please contact the District Clerk at 631-591-4521 for more information.

Application for an Early Voter Ballot: 

  • Can be received no earlier than April 20, 2026
  • Can be received no later than May 12, 2026, if the early voter ballot is to be mailed to the voter
  • Can be received no later than May 18, 2026, if the early voter ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter

Early Voter Ballots must be received by the District Clerk not later than Monday, May 18, 2026, if delivered personally OR no later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, if delivered by mail. All ballots must be returned in the provided envelope with the attestation on the envelope signed by the qualified voter.

Application for an Absentee Ballot:

  • Can be received no earlier than April 20, 2026
  • Can be received no later than May 12, 2026, if the absentee ballot is to be mailed to the voter
  • Can be received no later than May 18, 2026, if the absentee ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter

Absentee Ballots must be received by the District Clerk not later than Monday, May 18, 2026, if delivered personally OR no later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, if delivered by mail. All ballots must be returned in the provided envelope with the attestation on the envelope signed by the qualified voter.

The Board of Registration will meet for the purpose of registering qualified voters of the District on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the District Office, 300 Hampton Road, Southampton, NY. Qualified voters can also use the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles Electronic Voter Registration Application to register to vote or to update the information they have on file with the New York State Board of Elections. Information regarding that can be located at: New York DMV | Register to Vote Online - Electronic Voter Registration Application. The District does not have control over the Department of Motor Vehicles Registration Application process or its registration timelines. Therefore, qualified voters who intend to register through the Department of Motor Vehicles should do so as soon as possible.

Military voters who are not currently registered may apply to register as qualified voters of the school district. An application for registration as a military voter can be requested by contacting the District Clerk at 631-591-4521 or clerk@southamptonschools.org; the application for registration must be received in the office of the clerk no later than 5:00 pm on May 5, 2026. In the request for an application for registration, the military voter is permitted to designate his/her preference for receiving the application for registration by mail, facsimile transmission or electronic mail.

Military voters who are qualified voters of the district may submit an application for a military ballot by contacting the District Clerk at 631-591-4521 or clerk@southamptonschools.org; in order to receive a military ballot, the military ballot application must be received no later than 5:00 pm on April 23, 2026, which is the day preceding the last day for transmission of military ballots. In the request for an application for a military ballot, the military voter is permitted to designate his/her preference for receiving the application for a military ballot, and the military ballot, by mail, facsimile transmission or electronic mail. All qualified military voters’ ballot application and military ballot must be returned by mail or in person. Ballots for military voters shall be distributed to qualified military voters no later than April 23, 2026. Military ballots must be received (1) by the District Clerk not later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, and must show a cancellation mark of the United States postal service or a foreign country’s postal service, or must show a dated endorsement of receipt by another agency of the United States Government; or (2) not later than 5:00 pm on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, and be signed and dated by the military voter and one witness, with a date ascertained to be not later than the day before the election. 

2026 Voto y elección del presupuesto del Distrito Escolar de Southampton

La votación y elección del presupuesto anual se llevará a cabo el día martes 19 de mayo de 2026, de 10:00 am a 8:00 pm, en el salón de música de la Escuela Intermedia de Southampton, 70 Leland Lane, Southampton.

  1. Adoptar el presupuesto anual del Distrito Escolar para el año fiscal 2026-2027 y autorizar que la porción requerida del mismo se recaude mediante impuestos sobre la propiedad sujeta a impuestos del Distrito.
     
  2. Elegir (1) miembro de la Junta de Educación por un período de cuatro años que comenzará el 1 de julio de 2026 y finalizará el 30 de junio de 2030.
     

Se llevará a cabo una audiencia pública de los votantes calificados del Distrito Escolar de Southampton, Ciudad de Southampton, Condado de Suffolk, Nueva York, en la bibiloteca de la Escuela Intermedia de Southampton, 70 Leland Lane, Southampton, NY, el 5 de mayo de 2026, a las 6:30 p.m., hora actual, para la transacción de negocios autorizada por la Ley de Educación, incluyendo los siguientes artículos:

Cada petición deberá ser enviada a la Secretaria del Distrito por correo (300 Hampton Road, Southampton, NY 11968), correo electrónico (clerk@southamptonshools.org) o fax (631-287-2870); debe ser firmado por un mínimo de 25 votantes calificados del distrito y debe indicar el nombre y la residencia del candidato. Las posiciones vacantes en la Junta de Educación no se consideran cargos separados; los candidatos ejercen sus funciones en conjunto. Las peticiones de nominación no deben describir ninguna vacante específica en la Junta para la cual se nomina al candidato. Solicitud de boleta de voto en ausencia:

  • No se puede recibir antes del 20 de abril de 2026
  • Se puede recibir a más tardar el 12 de mayo de 2026, si la boleta de voto en ausencia debe ser enviada por correo al votante.
  • Se puede recibir a más tardar el 18 de mayo de 2026, si la boleta de voto en ausencia debe entregarse personalmente al votante.
  • Solicitud de boleta de voto en ausencia de distrito escolar

Las boletas de voto en ausencia deben ser recibidas por la Secretaria del Distrito a más tardar el lunes 18 de mayo de 2026, si va a ser entregada personalmente O a más tardar a las 5:00 p.m. del martes 19 de mayo de 2026, si va a ser entregada por correo. Todas las boletas deben devolverse en el sobre proporcionado con la certificación firmada por el votante calificado.

La Junta de Registro se reunirá con el propósito de registrar a los votantes calificados del Distrito, el día miércoles 6 de mayo de 2026, de 1:00 pm a 5:00 pm en la Oficina del Distrito ubicada en 300 Hampton Road, Southampton, NY. Los votantes calificados también pueden usar la solicitud electrónica de registro de votantes del Departamento de Motores y Vehículos del Estado de Nueva York para registrarse o para actualizar la información que tienen en los archivos de la Junta Electoral del Estado de Nueva York. El Distrito Escolar no tiene control sobre el proceso de Solicitud de Registro del Departamento de Motores y Vehículos o sus plazos de registro. Los votantes militares que no están registrados pueden solicitar registrarse como votantes calificados del distrito escolar. La solicitud de registro debe recibirse en la oficina de la Secretaria a más tardar las 5:00 pm del 5 de mayo de 2026. En la solicitud de registro, el votante militar puede designar su preferencia para recibir la solicitud de registro: por correo, fax o correo electrónico.

Para recibir una boleta militar, los votantes militares calificados del distrito pueden entregar la solicitud comunicándose con la Secretaria del Distrito al 631-591-4521 o al correo clerk@southamptonschools.org; la solicitud debe recibirse a más tardar las 5:00 pm del 23 de abril de 2026, que es el día anterior al último día para la transmisión de las boletas militares. En la solicitud de boleta militar, el votante puede designar su preferencia para recibir la solicitud y la boleta: por correo, fax o correo electrónico. Todas las solicitudes de boletas electorales militares calificadas y las boletas electorales militares deben devolverse por correo o en persona. Las boletas para votantes militares se distribuirán a los votantes militares calificados a más tardar el 23 de abril de 2026. Las boletas militares deben ser recibidas (1) por la Secretaria del Distrito a más tardar las 5:00 pm del martes 19 de mayo de 2026 y deben mostrar un marca de cancelación del servicio postal de los Estados Unidos o del servicio postal de un país extranjero, o debe mostrar un endoso fechado del recibo de otra agencia del gobierno de los Estados Unidos; o (2) a más tardar a las 5:00 pm del martes 19 de mayo de 2026, debe tenerla fecha y firma del votante militar y un testigo, con una fecha que no sea posterior al día anterior a la elección.
