Press Box /Daktronics MGR-Scoreboard Operations
Position Summary
The Press Box Manager oversees all scoreboard, video display, and press box operations during athletic events. This role ensures that the Daktronics scoreboard, stadium sound system, and live video production (including field cameras and replay feeds) are operated smoothly, professionally, and in alignment with the school/organization’s image and event standards. Works in tandem with Camera Crew Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Scoreboard & Display Operations
- Operate the Daktronics scoreboard during games to ensure accurate and timely updates of scores, game clock, team names, and player stats.
- Manage all scoreboard functions including pre-game setup, in-game operations, and post-game display.
- Troubleshoot minor technical issues with the Daktronics system and escalate larger issues for vendor /IT support.
2. Graphics & Media Creation
- Design and upload scoreboard graphics (team logos, sponsor advertisements, player spotlights, halftime presentations, etc.).
- Create and schedule pre-game, in-game, and post-game displays (welcome messages, hype videos, recognition slides, final score graphics).
- Ensure all media aligns with the school/organization’s branding and professional image.
3. Video & Camera Integration
- Coordinate with camera operators to capture live field action, replays, and crowd shots for display on the scoreboard.
- Manage video switcher systems to ensure smooth transitions between scoreboard graphics, live feeds, and replays.
- Oversee setup and testing of cameras, ensuring clear shots and reliable connections to the scoreboard system.
4. Sound System Coordination
- Manage press box sound system including microphones, music playback, and sponsor announcements.
- Work with announcers to ensure clear audio levels and smooth timing of announcements with scoreboard visuals.
- Prepare playlists or sound cues for team entrances, halftime, and special events.
5. Game-Day Management
- Arrive prior to events to conduct system checks (scoreboard, sound, video feeds, graphics).
- Coordinate with event staff, announcers, and coaches to review timing, special presentations, and sponsor requirements.
- Ensure seamless integration of sponsors, school spirit, and fan engagement elements into the event presentation.
6. Post-Event Duties
- Save and archive game media files for records, highlight reels, or promotional use.
- Shut down and secure all scoreboard, sound, and video equipment.
- Report any technical issues, equipment malfunctions, or needed upgrades.
Qualifications & Skills
- Familiarity with Daktronics scoreboard software and control systems (training provided if needed).
- Basic knowledge of audio/visual production, including cameras, switchers, and sound mixing.
- Strong attention to detail, timing, and accuracy.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Professional communication skills and ability to coordinate with multiple staff and student helpers.
