September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
Southampton Athletics Goes GOLD for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
Dear Parents, Students and Community Members,
The Southampton Athletic Department is partnering with the Daniela Conte Foundation to raise money and awareness for childhood cancer. September is national childhood awareness month and our varsity, junior varsity and junior high fall sports teams will be swapping out their laces on their cleats and sneakers to Gold Laces to show support for those families who have and/or are currently dealing with childhood cancer. We have several families in our community as well as staff members who are dealing with a child who is battling cancer or have lost a child to cancer. We will have a QR code up on the video board as well as on the flyer if you wish to donate. We will also be collecting monetary donations at our games in September.
We will be kicking off Gold Laces for Childhood Cancer games in the upcoming week and we will post the dates and times for each of the teams.
Attached is a flyer with more information- if possible I was hoping you could post a couple of flyers in each building.
Why GOLD?
In 1997, a group of parents of children impacted by cancer chose the color GOLD to represent childhood cancer. Now, supporters around the world wear GOLD.
Childhood Cancer by the Numbers
- In the U.S. 47 children are diagnosed with cancer every day, which is about 17,000 children per year.
- 20% of children in the U.S. will not survive it
- Cancer is the #1 cause of death by disease in American children
- Globally, it is estimated that 400,000+ new cases of cancer affect children each year
About the Daniela Conte Foundation
The Daniela Conte Foundation is a 501(c)(3) pediatric cancer foundation with a mission of providing financial support, raising awareness for pediatric cancer, and funding research to help kids fighting cancer.
We provide critical financial support to local NYC and Long Island families of children with cancer, which allows them to focus on what's most important: their child's health and recovery. As a 100% volunteer organization, $0.90 out of every $1.00 donated and fundraised goes directly to helping these families.
Join us in spreading the word and making a difference in the fight against childhood cancer!
