Southampton names director of multilingual and culturally responsive education
The Southampton School District Board of Education has appointed Jully Williams as the district’s new director of multilingual and culturally responsive education.
“We are excited to welcome Jully Williams to our district,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Fatima Morrell. “Her experience as both an assistant principal and an ENL teacher gives her a deep understanding of the instructional and cultural needs of our multilingual learners. We are confident that her leadership will strengthen our commitment to students across the district.”
Williams, of Farmingville, joins the Southampton School District from Milton L. Olive Middle School in Wyandanch, where she had served as an assistant principal since 2023. In other administrative roles, she was as an assistant principal at Huntington High School and the secondary dean for Western Suffolk BOCES in North Babylon. Along with her administrative experience, she has worked as a professional development professor for SCOPE Education online instruction since 2017. She began her career as an ENL teacher in the North Babylon School District, where she garnered administrative experience through an internship, as well. She has also taught beginner-level ESL courses as an adjunct professor at Suffolk County Community College.
In addition to her academic roles, Williams is a member of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, the New York State Association of Bilingual Education, the New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers and the Long Island Latino Teachers Association.
She holds an A.A. in liberal arts from Suffolk County Community College, a B.A. in social sciences and an M.A. in TESOL education from Adelphi University, and an advanced graduate certificate in educational leadership from Stony Brook University.
“As director of multilingual and culturally responsive education, I am committed to fostering equity, diversity and inclusion with fairness and respect for all students,” said Williams. “My leadership philosophy focuses on creating pathways to success by prioritizing the needs of our diverse subgroups and ensuring every student has meaningful learning opportunities. I look forward to partnering with staff, students and families to build welcoming spaces where everyone feels valued.”
