Throughout the month of May, Southampton Intermediate School focused on the theme of Leadership, a message that remained at the center of our school gatherings, activities, and student initiatives. Our students demonstrated leadership in countless ways. Students were leaders through service, kindness, academics, teamwork, and community involvement , making this a truly meaningful month across our school community.
Spring SEL Day – On May 27, students at Southampton Intermediate School participated in a schoolwide Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Day centered around the themes of leadership, kindness, and community service. The day began with a special visit from Eagle Academy, whose team led an engaging assembly focused on leadership, character, and making positive choices. Following the assembly, students participated in grade-level breakout sessions that encouraged meaningful discussions about what it means to be a leader both inside and outside of school. In the afternoon, the entire school took part in a variety of community service projects throughout Southampton Village and the surrounding community. Students boarded buses and traveled to different locations to work alongside local organizations and give back in meaningful ways. Community partnerships included projects with Rogers Memorial Library, Heart of the Hamptons, Southampton Village Ambulance, Southampton Village Police Department, Southampton Fire Department, and Southampton Village Hall, where students assisted Mayor Bill Manger with a special project. Additional student groups participated in a beach cleanup initiative, while others remained on campus to support projects such as maintaining the school garden, organizing the school’s lost and found, sorting clothing donations for a clothing drive, and creating positive messages for the school community. One group of students also visited Southampton Elementary School, where they helped teachers prepare for the school’s upcoming art show and created uplifting messages for younger students throughout the building. The SEL Day provided students with an opportunity to strengthen leadership skills, build empathy, and experience firsthand the importance of service and community involvement. Southampton Intermediate School extends its sincere appreciation to all of the local organizations, community leaders, faculty, and staff members who helped make the day such a meaningful and impactful experience for students. |
